Lawson’s Finest Liquids – Lawson’s Finest Double Sunshine IPA – 16oz can served in Rastal Harmony glass – 8% ABV I’d no doubt recommend this beer to anyone missing summertime hangouts while braving the winter blues, to anyone who wants to try an IPA but is scared it would be too overpowering, or to those IPA’ers who want to drink something other than pine needles.Official description: Double Sunshine is our American Double India Pale Ale which is packed with juicy, lush fruit character and dank herbal aromas, thanks to the abundance of U.S. You buy it and you’re expecting the literal nectar of the gods, and what you get might be great, but there’s that 5% of you that’s still like “well yeah, but…” A good beer by any means but this is the problem when beer gets hyped up. The flavors are fruity, fresh, and lean towards the grapefruit spectrum rather than piney notes. This is a good thing as it doesn’t wage war on the palette (like some sculpins and other bastardly ales) and allows for less prominent flavors to have their time on the stage. The IBU prominence was on the lower side for what I’m used to in modern, craft IPAs. It’s a good beer by any means and it definitely holds its own with some subtle and unique characteristics, but damn, it’s just that – a good IPA. The first sip of sunshine didn’t necessarily disappoint, but let me explain. It really feels, smells, and acts fresh and lively – a perfect cure to the cold and harsh winter weather.
No, patterns of smaller to medium sized bubbles danced around the glass for, well, even after the 10 minute mark writing this review. It wasn’t like a seltzer where larger bubbles assault the sides of the glass and cling to it like they were told “no” by their parents in a toy store. When poured into the glass, the color is somewhat darker for an IPA but it really lends to it that sunshiney feel – golden, majestic, what-have-you… Another surprising aspect of the pour, aside from the nice head it gave (heh), was the amount of carbonation it gave off. Upon the cracking of the can, it’s no surprise this smells of a typical IPA. I’m not sure of there are any other size variants but I’d be inclined to say no. The 4-pack comes with 16 oz cans the distributor is actually regulated on how they can sell this upon delivery. Lawson’s set the picture of this vibrant beer right from the initial viewing of this can: bright colors surround a funky, 60’s era font and sun logo right there on display in front. This would be my supplement for my quickly fading vitamin D from my recent trip to Mexico – winter blues got me down, man!
#Sip of sunshine 4pack cost cracked
I put on some summer grooves, my shades, and cracked open the bright yellow can. It wasn’t his favorite but it was mentioned enough that, when seeing it was in stock at a local beer distributor, I bit. There are a few fellas there that like beer, cigars, scotch and whiskey… You get the idea. My boss, from time to time, enjoys craft beers and likes to talk with the guys in the office about new beers he’s tried or old beers that he’s revisited. I had heard it’s name mentioned by my boss quite a few times over the past 3 or so years. Thoughts as I drank: Sip of Sunshine (hereby thoughtfully referred to by SoS for the sake of saving a few words) was originally brought to my attention at work through some conversations.
